I Will Be Kind

5 Principles Of Reiki - #5 Just For Today, I Will Be Kind To Every Living Thing

Reiki - Reiki is a Japanese healing art administered by the “laying on of hands” and the transfer of healing energy. The term Reiki is a combination of rei meaning life and ki, meaning energy. As an alternative medicine, Reiki is considered energywork using spiritually guided life force energy.

Reiki Principles - Dr. Mikao Usui, the founding father of Reiki taught his students the 5 Reiki Principles, also called Reiki Ideals or Reiki Precepts. Usui based these principles on the teachings of the Meiji Emperor of Japan and intended them to be a pattern for living a life of peace and harmony.

#5 Just For Today, I Will Be Kind To Every Living Thing

Showing kindness to others (and to yourself) raises you to a new level. Kindness requires little effort, little time and little thought beyond a smile and kind word. Choose to be kind to everyone you meet, not just those you know and already like. Everyone, in fact, every living thing, needs kindness in their lives, the more kindness you give, the more you will receive and the happier we all will be.

When someone is kind to you, you feel valued, appreciated and happy. Your self esteem and self worth rise. The world is filled with people with low self esteem, they lead negative lives filled with anger and hatred. Kindness could change that for them, you are kind to someone and that person is kind to someone and the positive energy is shared and expands.

Be kind to yourself - "Be kind to every living thing" includes being kind to yourself, there is no difference between self and others in the Universe. Learn to love and value yourself and in turn you will learn to be more loving. You will soon realize that love and kindness are directionless much like Reiki, which heals both giver and receiver supporting the concept that giving or receiving are one.

Smile - Start by smiling at everyone you meet throughout your day. There is a good chance that that person will smile back. But even if they don’t, the positive energy of your smile will register at some level and may be passed on to someone else. You have no idea how your simple act of kindness will influence others, and how far that positive energy will travel. On a Spiritual level, what you give will come back to you, spread kindness and you will receive kindness in return.

Unconditional Kindness - Your goal should be “unconditional kindness”, giving without expecting anything in return. Some tips to share kindness and reach unconditional kindness:

~Practice random acts of kindness.

~Be generous with laughter and affection, hugs and handshakes.

~Be free with smiles, compliments, gratitude and praise.

~Open doors for others, help someone carry heavy packages, volunteer your time.

We are all connected. Kindness is contagious. If you are kind to someone, it can cause a domino effect that spreads kindness and positive energy to many others. If someone witness your act of kindness it will inspire that person to be kind as well, starting a wave of positive energy.

Once you begin to live a life filled with kindness and gratitude for every living thing, you will realize that everyone and everything is connected. You will appreciate, value and honor the food you eat, the air you breathe, the water you drink, the relationships you share, all that sustains you.
